This D7000 replaces my trusty D200, so the review will use the D200 as a reference. While a very solid feeling body, it feels less substantial than the D200. I am not sure if it is the slightly smaller size, weight, or the material. Some may find the D7000 mode dial more convenient than the button and dial method in the D200, but I am not a fan of it. Some of the improvements: - the D7000 has a much quieter shutter - two memory card slots with mutiple options for their use including automatic backup - improved image quality - the autofocus seems to work better on moving targets - big LCD panel for reviewing the images - User-defined modes for quick selection of custom modes (Yeah!) First impressions tell me that once I get used to the feel and controls I think I will be extremely happy with the D7000! It is always harder when you are used to something & have to change, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. It is a great body - highly recommended.

I upgraded my D5000 for the D7000 and I'm so thrilled with this camera!!! By far...the best! Changing settings on the fly is so easy! Absolutely no regrets!

I've been using my D7000 for over a year now, and it's going on strong. No issues with the build quality at all. The Battery life is very very good (usually avg around 1500 shots or more with lots of reviewing). The twin card slots are a definite plus! Coupled with a fast card (eg. Sandisk Extreme) you can click the shutter like crazy and it'll keep going and going.. Even after a burst of 10 raw files, clears the entire buffer in 8 sec. I really don't have to get into detail about the image quality and the AF, 'cause they're both excellent. It's been in rain, snow, mud (unintentionally), and still works like a charm. If you're looking for a D300s in a smaller package (in many ways better than the D300s), the D7000 does not disappoint! Perhaps my only gripe is that I would have liked an articulating screen for video and low level shots. It's also perhaps a bit advanced for the beginner, though allows room to grow ;) Highly recommended.
I bought this as my backup DSLR, and I would not regret it at all. Worth the investment. Outstanding picture quality. I usually shoot in manual mode but the preset auto settings gave some impressive results, even in low lightings. This is one of Nikon's best and fastest operating cameras to date. Will recommend this to everyone that wants to get into DSLR. Good Luck.
I recently upgraded from a Nikon D60 to the D7000 and it is an awesome camera. I particularly like how the most commonly used settings are now available on the camera body without having to dig through several menu layers. I also appreciate how the high ISO values enable me to shoot in really low light with no noticeable noise or having to use a flash. This camera just feels good and fits my hands well and the magnesium alloy body has already saved me some grief when I dropped it on a rocky beach. I would highly recommend this camera to anybody. It has enough advanced features for the serious enthusiast and yet with all the scene modes and auto settings it shouldn't be too difficult for new users of digital SLRs to start making great photographs. As well, the staff of Henry's St. John's were a great resource and very knowledgeable about their products and so made my decision to buy, easier.
I upgraded from the D5000 and I'm very excited. The viewfinder is big and bright, a pleasure to use. The direct access to the most used controls can be a real asset, keeping menu digging at critical moments to a minimum. The onboard focus motor allows the use of excellent older AF lenses like my 50mm 1.8D and soon to be 85mm 1.8D. High ISO performance is excellent. The LCD screen is is handier than I would have imagined and the body fits perfectly in my hands. I think I will be happy with this camera for many years to come.
This is the 8th Nikon DSLR I've purchased from Henry's and by far the best yet. A very solid and balanced feel similar to the Nikon D300 I previously owned. The camera has many advanced features far beyond any DSLR I've used in the past with the quality results only the Nikon System can offer. With the Henry's Help warranty and Half Back program this is the best photographic investment I've ever made!
I got my D7000 in early December 2010 and have used it every day since then, averaging 500-600 shots per month. Everything about this camera seems to suit my needs and preferences. The fit in the hand, the quiet shutter and the placement of buttons and controls. Many of the buttons can be customized (Excellent Feature) and I especially like having two control wheels. I rarely need to go to the menu system for anything while shooting. Most camera reviews gloss over the menu systems and functions and I think that's a mistake. If you need to use the menus a lot and they are confusing-- you're not going to enjoy your camera or use it well. I was very close to buying a different brand camera but their menu system so totally annoyed me (and confused the sales person showing it to me) that I wrote them off the list. The minute I picked up the D7000 it was intuitive and fast to use. I haven't even talked about the superb colour rendition or the low light capability-- both are first class. I would definitely buy this camera again.
i bought this camera the first day it came ou5. and it is an amaZing dslr. the battery life is crazy long and the performance is stellar. no problems at all since i bought it.
I upgraded to the D7000 from a Sony a200 a while back now. I am extremely happy with the D7000 so far. It's a definite learning curve to get to know the camera, and I think if someone is new to dSLRs they'd be better served by something like the d3100, d5100 or Sony a55. having said that, the potential for growth with the d7000 is boundless. I know now that I have a camera that I will not outgrow. Pros: + Semi-pro features/build at a very respectable price + Nikons seem to be built for photographers, not built as gimmicks + High ISO is amazing on the D7000. ISO3200 is very clean and usable, ISO6400 could likely print to 8x10 Cons: - No in-body stabilization. This is a shame, and something I miss from Sony. - No articulated screen - Some units may suffer from focus issues. I have not noticed this so far on my sample.
