This is an adequate lens for outdoors or travel because it's light weight. It's good enough if you have lots of light or a flash but IQ suffers in low light situations. It came with my 450d and 60d but I rarely use it. I think that if you are to buy a lens only that you'd be much happier with the 50mm 1.8 at half the price and twice the IQ.

  • Nice focused in, Terrible at wide angle for landscapes etc.

I would not buy this lens for any kind of landscape photography. Wide angle shots (about anything less than 35) with infinite focus come out soft and look pretty bad even on my 17" computer screen. However the lens works quite well focused in on a subject. I've gotten some great close ups with nicely blurred backgrounds...people seem to come out well and it makes a decent party or outing camera. It's also light and cheap. If you want to capture that majestic landscape though, this is NOT the lens to choose.
