Details

A superior performance, ultra-compact telephoto zoom lens with Canon's Image Stabilization. These Diffractive Optics elements are combined to reduce size and boost image quality. AF is super-fast and silent with a ring-type USM, and it focuses down to 4.6 feet, without rotating the front element. A new zoom lock button keeps the lens safe and secure when not in use or used at the wide angle.

I bought this lens over 5 years ago from my local Henrys. It has proven to be a great buy for several reasons. First and foremost it is small and light, looking more like a normal range zoom. It fits into a reasonable sized bag along with my other gear and does not look too imposing, unlike the big white, red ringed jobs. It works well on my 5D but combined with my new 7D its range is to the 450mm area. While not techno wise,I have never had any complaints about sharpness as compares well to my other lens which are all 'L' models. I take alot of architectural shots and it has proven indispensible on trips as a hand held lens. Its one big weakness is after thousands of shots the friction on the zoom is almost gone and now requires to be handheld to ensure no zoom movement. A small price to pay given it benefits and years of service
