    • Great Camera

I am new to DSLRs and this is still an awesome camera. There are lots of good books that explain every feature of the D-90 so theres no need to be intimidated and with several automatice modes, you can learn about the more advanced features over time and still take great pictures right out of the box.

    • A Great Choice

So I've been into photography for a couple years now, but had never owned my own camera. I mostly used Canon Rebels that my school offered. All summer I contemplated what camera body to buy. I started out looking at some Canons, but then started leaning into the Nikon area. I immediately fell in love with the D7000. It was in my price range, so approximately October 2011 I decided to buy one. But then I ran into a problem. I don't remember where, but there was a flood so Henry's wasn't ordering in D7000 for about a year. So I decided to go with the D90 which everyone was recommending me. It is a perfect first DSLR for that person who wants to get into photography. The settings are very easy to get used to, and many different authors provide and instructional handbook to get the most out of your camera. I have not been disappointed with choosing the D90 over the D7000, and probably never will. ISO capabilities going up to 3200 then two high ISO levels make it easy to shoot at night or indoors. Includes up to 720p video, which I rarely use, but however it's still good. A quick, built in auto focus allows you to focus with older lenses that do not have a focus motor. So if the D7000 is not available, or it is not in your price range. This is the camera for you. It is practically a steal for a price of only 729.99!

    • Nikon D90

I bought one of these camera's a month back, when I switched from the 4/3 Olympus to Nikon. Got this in a package with the 18-55mm and 70-300mm VR lenses (same lens package I had with my Olympus) and I have only good things to say about it. The service that I got from the staff, and the knowledge that they had of not only the Nikon, but other cameras is better than any other camera store I have been too. Even got a good trade in value for my old Olympus camera. Since then I have bought a 50mm 1.8 lens that is great for portraits, will be dealing with Henry's for future lens purchases.

Being very new to DSLRs, the d90 was very easy to pick up, use, and shoot in manual. This body feels much better in my hands than the newer, but smaller, d5100. If you're looking for a no-nonsense DSLR, and can't afford the d7000, this is a great option. It will suffer more and higher ISO compared to a newer DSLR, but for me, the feel, dual command wheels, and built-in auto focus motor are worth the sacrifices.

I bought this camera from Henry's a year ago, as a step up from the d60. I wanted to start doing professional photography, and did alot of research. I chose to stay with Nikon, because I had already invested in one lense over $500, also because looking at many reviews I felt that their mid-range or semi-pro cameras took the same quality of pictures, if not better in some instances as many of the full frame cameras. I was a little hesitant, because my camera was an "open box" and many of the retailers would not price match it because of that. But it works incredible, and I haven't had any problems. It took a bit of getting used to for a couple photosessions remembering where everything was, but after that I was fine. The features that I like about it, and my collegues have also mentioned, is that it is a very good in low light. I do special events without a flash, and with the high ISO capability, and High ISO Noise reduction option built into the camera my pictures come out with little grain compared to others on my photo team. I like that it has a motor inside the camera, so I can use prime lenses, and fast lenses (f1.8/ f2.8) for wedding photography, and also full frame lenses. The only problem I have is that as my skill grows, so does my need for a full frame camera and the d90 is not. Which I am currently saving for. This will be my backup camera for when I shoot weddings and I have peace knowing that it will perform extremely well for years to come.

    • Still impressed after about a year

I've had my D90 for about a year, and I'm still very impressed with it every time I use it. Its never done something unexpected, and I feel comfortable using it in the cold weather, when its raining (although I have a 'raincoat' for it) and I'm not worried about bumping it on something because it feels quite robust. The battery life is great, and with a quick SD card it performs very quickly, all the time. I'm also quite happy with its low-light performance (although I have several f.18 and f2.8 lenses that help a lot) - which is one of the main reasons I upgraded to this camera.

Love this camera, I do agree with Scott it would be difficult to opperate with little SLR experience, but I love love love this camera! I started with the D5000 and it made a world of difference when I upgraded to the D90.

    • Does many things very well

I purchased two of the D90 bodies after reading glowing reviews on-line and doing comparisons keeping in mind what I would be using it for. (I gave one as a gift) I use it for personal and commercial photography projects and find that it excels at being simple to use, easy to set up, easy to carry in hand and is equally good at shooting indoors, outdoors, during the day and into the night. The camera is quite similar to my older Nikon film camera yet provides so much more user friendly features. Two of which are the large 3" lcd screen and the ability to adjust the white balance to a very finite degree. I would not hesitate to purchase another one as a backup and I would recommend it in an instant.

    • Excellent DSLR

I'm just an amateur/enthusiast so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I think this is an excellent DSLR all-around. Ergonomics are spot-on, has a dedicated function button, dof preview, two rotary dials for aperture and shutter, top of camera LCD display, easy-to-navigate AND understand menus, etc. etc. etc. If you can't quite afford the D7000, this is an excellent compromise. If you can afford to spend more than the D5000 or D5100, I would personally go with the D90. I use the D90 with my af 24-120 and af 50 1.8, and have the MBD80 battery grip attached. My only (super minor) gripe is the lack of weather sealing (which the D7000 has). More focus points would be nice too, but that'll come when I upgrade. Highly recommended.
