As a powersports photographer, I've been looking for a portable light stand to bring along on rides that provides me with the durability I need in extreme conditions as well as functionality and portability. Just recently picked up the gorillapod SLR-Zoom + ballhead and all of a sudden life seems simpler out in the field. I can attached my speedlight stand to the ballhead, then slide my PocketWizard and SB900 into the hot shoe, wind the flexible legs around anything such as a tree branch, rock or even the handlebars of my vehicle. The ten rubber grips per leg ensure your gear won't slip or slide off its mounting point. The more contact points the better and each of the ball joints hold firm to the position you set them in. All of a sudden I have mobility without worrying if my light-stand will tip over and when I'm done, it folds up small enough to tuck into my bag. It can support more than six pounds of weight too, so if I ever require the steady shot that only a tripod can deliver, the gorillapod SLR-Zoom can easily support my camera and lens. Great product. Will likely buy another for my second flash very soon.
